Demo and Mini-Workshop by

Mardilan Georgio

Pastel painting of long ocean wave

We will be featuring a demo and optional mini-workshop by our own Mardi Georgio.

During the general meeting, Mardi will demonstrate how to use various tools to draw and paint accurately. She will work from a photo reference, and will bring several paintings to show how they benefited from using these tools.

We hope you will join us! Come early at 9:30 a.m. for refreshments and socializing.

If you live out of the area, we will also be connecting our members via Zoom

MINI WORKSHOP

Following the general meeting, Mardilan Georgio will be our mini-workshop instructor. Working together, she will show participants how to use a number of tools to facilitate better drawing and accuracy. Some tools will be provided, and some tools will need to be supplied by the student (see Supply List). Students will use each tool for a specific drawing task as they create a small study from provided photos or still life. After, students can work on their own from their own photos or those that Mardi has provided. Students can either sketch or paint from the photos.

Time: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. following the general meeting.

Cost: $40

About Mardi…

Mardilan Lee Georgio found her passion for creating fine art late in life. She raised a family and enjoyed painting commissioned murals for both businesses and residences. Mardi uses multiple forms of media, including pastel, watercolor and oil. She is known for portraiture, dancers, land and seascapes, and wonders in nature.

Raised in the San Fernando Valley, Mardilan always explored her creative side. Her mother introduced her to many forms of visual and performance arts, including oil painting, piano, costuming, voice training and dance. While practicing all of these, her primary focus was ballet, where she eventually studied with the School of American Ballet at Juilliard in New York City and performed with the New York City Ballet at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Her father, an outdoorsman, fostered a love for nature, taking her on camping and hiking trips in the Sierras.

Mardi has studied under such noted pastel artists as Richard McKinley, Jeanne Rosier Smith, Alain Picard, Marla Baggetta and watercolor artists Joseph Zbukvic, Andy Evansen, Brenda Swenson, and Thomas Schaller, as well as figurative artist Daniel Gerhartz.

Today, Mardi is a board member of the Pastel Society of Southern California and a former board member of the Santa Clarita Artists Association, ARTree.org and Women Painters West. She is also a member of Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of the West Coast, California Art Club, Santa Barbara Artist Association, Salmagundi Art Club of New York, Yosemite Sierra Artists, Valley Watercolor Society, and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. She has displayed her work at various galleries and museums from Laguna Beach up through northern California, and New York City.
